Benson Lake is at a relatively low elevation for the High Sierra at about 7800 feet. Our day started with climbing out of that hole up to a pass at just over 10,000 feet. Next we dropped back down 1500 feet only to climb again up 800 feet. Then down 1000, then up 1200, then down another 1000. We ended the day about 700 feet higher than when we started, but the ups and downs were hard on the body. All in all we covered 15 miles although it felt like fifty.
We camped near Wilmer Lake and were joined by three other hikers at our campfire. It was me, Prince Charles, Liftoff, Rocky (a German girl), Dirty B, and Spoon Train. We had a nice conversation around the fire and dinner, then retired later than usual around 9:30.
