It seems that everyone camping near me had the same idea this morning to get up late and take our time hitting the trail. As I was walking out I came across the couple I talked with last night about my gear. They were just packing up. The other couple camping off in the trees caught up to me about an hour later as I was taking in the sights above Carson to the east. We all arrived at Carson Pass witching fifteen minutes of each other to discover that the Carson Pass Visitors Center volunteers are especially kind to PCT hikers. Not only did they have fresh donuts, but they gave us a Coke, Twinkies, cookies, and watermelon! Jenny, Kevin, and the other volunteer were excited about thru hikers coming to their location. We were excited to be there!
After Carson Pass it was on to Echo Summit. Now you might think that Echo Summit implies an uphill assault, but you would be wrong. The trail was mostly flat, a little up, and then steeply down! Echo Summit refers to the location near Lake Tahoe that the US Olympic Ski Team practiced some years ago. It has now become the site for my dinner at their picnic tables and the location I chose to stealth camp near Highway 50. The Adventure Mountain Ski Area is closed for the summer so it's parking area is used as a trailhead. I tried to hitch to the nearest town and was unsuccessful so I stealth camped instead.
Hiker Trash enjoying rest and a Coke.
Mose hiker trash.
Our wonderful volunteers with Trail Magic!
Trail magic happened again as these hikers supplied me with water and vitamin ade so I could stealth camp.
Hanging out at Adventure Mountain Ski Lodge. Dinner and quiet camping in their trees.
