July 17 - South Lake Tahoe and Onward

Got a ride from Bob, a timber faller, not a woodcutter or lumberjack, or anything else you might call someone who cuts down trees for a living. Nice guy. Threw his clubs in the truck bed to make room for this hiker. Took me to Lake of the Sky Outfitters and then to Ernie's where he dropped me off for breakfast. Later I hung out across the street from the outfitters at Raleys while waiting for the store to open.

At 10:00 I sauntered across Highway 50 to join a passel of other thru hikers in the hiker lounge at the rear of the store. While there I picked up a new Platypus 2 liter bag and replacement tips for my Leki poles - my second set. Not long after arriving I saw Liftoff and Rocky. I may see them somewhere down the trail on Tuesday.

Around 11:30 Betsy arrived, a little dazed from the long drive up from Berkeley. I was sure glad to see her. We took off to meet my sister at her friends' place on the other end of Lake Tahoe at Carnelian Bay. They have a great cabin in the woods with a comfortable deck shaded by sugar pines. Later we walked my sister's dog down to the ice cream store for a snack. It was great to walk and talk and catch up on all of the events Betsy took part in while visiting Denver.

Later I had a couple of IPAs Betsy brought for me with some good salami and cheese. All in all it was a good day.
