July 14 - 20 miles

A young couple at Sonora Pass while waiting for resupply was talking about the minimum miles needed per day to make it to Canada by mid-September. They pegged it at 20.1 if you only had five or fewer zero days. Each zero added at least .1 miles to the needed mileage. Now I'll admit I didn't do the math, but it was interesting to think about. Today I tried to do the necessary miles and succeeded, but I'm tired at the end of the day and my back hurts. I think I might have to lighten my load if I'm to make it according to their schedule.

Speaking of schedules, I'm not sure I'm on one. I am certainly enjoying the experience and look forward to each day as a continuation of the adventure, but I'm not feeling the need for speed. I've finished 1055 miles as of today. My next milestone will be the halfway point in another 258 miles, or about 16 days. Another milestone may be the Trinity Alps since I've heard so much about them from the Riesses.

Reaching the California border would be nice. And being home for Betsy's birthday in September has been moving up my list of must-dos. So, no schedule, but some priorities.

Other things I'd like to do that are along the way include, in no particular order, Lassen National Park, Crater Lake, the Cascades, Bridge of the Gods, the locks, and a walk in Manning Park before visiting Vancouver.

Anyway.....

Today was a good day. I played leapfrog with Serenity, Woodchuck, and Lost Boy. I also met Politics. Tonight I'm camped alone on one side of the creek, opposite a crowd on the other side. I think I'll sleep in tomorrow and do just 15 miles.
