July 8 - Takin' It Easy
I was so tired yesterday that I didn't carefully check my mileage. I knew I didn't make my first stop on my itinerary, but I also didn't think I did 23 miles, not on my first day. No wonder I fell asleep immediately and didn't wake until almost 3:30 in the morning. I slept in a little and decided that today would have to be easier. By five this afternoon I finished 17 miles, placing me in the middle of no where where I set up camp. I've see three hikers and two horse people today. Only section hiker Bob had anything to say, and I probably won't see him again as he has one bad Achilles and a huge blister on the other foot. And I though I was moving slow in the heat! I've seen more deer than people and have had more conversations with the deer. With dinner done and two hours of daylight left I'll probably read something on the kindle for a change.
The heat has cracked the earth. Much of the trail looks like this. Two weeks ago there was supposedly snow on the ground. Hmmm.
More flowers.
Second day selfie.
Camp.
