July 6 - Arrived Ashland
After a full day of exploring Lassen Volcanic National Park and weaving our way north on highways 36, 3, and Interstate 5 we arrived in Ashland, Oregon as the sun was setting. Good thing I packed everything I needed, except eyeglasses and contacts which I'm wearing, before leaving two days ago.
Along the way we bestowed the last of the beer left behind by the thru hikers we entertained on other Hiker Trash. Five, HotFudge, Atlas, and Sequi took us up on the offer as BeeKeeper, a non drinker, declined. All were found in the vicinity of Castle Crags State Park, a place I remember fondly as having unlimited hot water showers. The best!
Betsy's planning her next couple of days exploring the geocaches in Oregon and I'm figuring out where she'll drop me in the morning. It looks like I'll be starting where I left off at I-5 and Old Highway 99 South just a few miles east of Ashland.
Entrance to Lassen.
Lassen peak. The trail never came close. It stayed east and north, skirting the high ground, on its way to Old Station.
Snow in the parking lot at the road closure 6 miles into the park. Makes for a nice backdrop for the lovely Betsy Bunting.
My Shasta in the distance as we approached Ashland.
Only 933.3 miles to go! Woo hoo!!! I should be done by the time Betsy starts house sitting in Sausalito after her trip to Saskatchewan.
