Twelve miles up, and I do mean up, from highway 74 the PCT is closed due to a previous fire. The detour takes one down down down to highway 74 about ten miles past the Paradise Cafe and where we originally crossed 74 and started up. While the up and down was grueling the scenery was awesome. Chad and I leapfrogged most of it. Today he went on to Idyllwild while I opted for a camp spot in the national forest just outside the fence of the Herkey Creek county campground with showers. The camp hosts were at Paradise Cafe and suggested setting up camp outside the fence near site 68 while using the showers to avoid the $23 camping fee. They're nice to PCT thru hikers around here!
Just in case you didn't know.
I really enjoy following your blog. What a marvellous journey!
